Teaching Your Teams to Think Metaphorically

Would you like to experience how to effectively set up, conduct, and de-brief interactive exercises that offer real impact? Join us for the March ASTD MT Chapter meeting where you will learn how to turn your training exercises into powerful experiences.

Have you ever wondered how to make the most of interactive exercises that get participants to engage and to take that learning back to their jobs?

Using nothing but tennis balls and your active participation, you will learn how to turn a regular old interactive exercise into a powerful experience that your teams will remember and take the lessons learned back to their work environments.  Lori Nellist, the co-founding Director of New Frontiers and Dr. Jimmy A. Nelson, our own ASTD Co-VP Membership will show you the specific design elements that an effective interactive exercise must possess to have the impact you want on your audience.  During this “Learn by Doing” event you will experience first hand how the elements of an interactive exercise should be blended together so that that audience has the opportunity to seek etruth, or the truth that will emerge from the activity for their group.  Lori and Jimmy will make sure you leave the room with insights and actions you can immediately implement the next time you need a Team to go beyond just participating in training – to thinking metaphorically.

Dr. Jimmy A. Nelson has over 20 years of experience as a successful speaker, teacher and international organizational psychologist.  Jimmy’s passion comes through in his learning events as he relates personal anecdotes, powerful examples, and builds involvement from participants.  Called the “Jim Carey of training,” his use of humor, interaction and purposeful dramatizations help the audience internalize the lessons.  Dr. Jimmy is an expert in areas such as behavior change training, communication skills, conflict resolution, team development, group facilitation, and leadership/coaching skills.  Dr. Jimmy holds a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology, is a certified Franklin/Covey® instructor, taught the Dale Carnegie® course for 5 years, is a certified High/Low ropes instructor and published his first book “Eat Your Green Peppers – the law of being successful by doing what you HATE!” in February 2005.
