Web 2.0 for the Workplace Webinar

Read Karva Henderson Jones' summary of ASTDTN's recently held webinar!

On Thursday, April 22, 2010, Matthew Daniel, Project Manager at General Physics Corporation (GP), presented “Web 2.0 for the Workplace” via Microsoft Office Live Meeting.  The session began with participants taking a poll of how many of them currently use a social networking tool.  The presenter also gave a mini-tutorial on how to navigate Live Meeting.  The presentation was current, informative and highly interactive.

Matthew opened the session by differentiating between Web 1.0 (flat with very little interactivity) and Web 2.0 (user-driven, looks for engagement, requires input, and the content is dynamic).  Web 2.0 tools that participants discussed included LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Yammer.  Possible advantages as well as disadvantages of using Web 2.0 tools in the workplace were also explored during the webinar.  Matthew also presented various ways that companies are using Web 2.0 tools to market their organization while also engaging their customers, sponsors and/or stakeholders—while noting the importance of legal compliance and brand protection.
Web 2.0 allows members of the workplace to capitalize on diverse learning opportunities including learning on demand, collaboratively, and from peers in an informal environment.  Follow Matthew’s lead and begin exploring Web 2.0 tools today—inspire, connect, entertain, and educate!
