April 2010 Volunteer Spotlight: Mitch Hagerman
Mitch Hagerman is our featured volunteer for April. Read on for more information about Mitch.
Mitch works at Bridgestone Americas as the Manager Human Resource Development. He is responsible for the leadership development programs. Additionally, he manages the high potential development program for Bridgestone Americas building their bench of future leaders. The program focuses on strategic management principles coordinated with Vanderbilt University.
Mitch also manages the leadership development programs for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations. Working in partnership with their manufacturing leadership, Mitch has led the developement of a multi phased leadership development program. The first phase addresses newly hired or promoted supervisors. The second level is designed to develop established incumbent supervisors with core skills and tools. The third level is designed for advanced level supervisors being groomed for potential promotion to management of supervisors. This program looks at leadership in various cultures and how to lead multi generational work groups and team based leadership. The fourth level is designed as an advanced leadership program focused on strategic management and the application of these principles. The various elements of business are explored and the inter-realtionship of these elements in developing new strategic initiatives.
In addition to volunteering with ASTD Middle Tennessee, Mitch volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America. He is currently the Pack Committee Chairman and the Assistant Cub Master with Pack 148 in Lebanon. Mitch says his personal mission is to develop others by sharing what he has learned, this is the driving factor behind his involvement with ASTD. He strives for the spark in the eye of the learner when they realize they have mastered the lesson. Volunteering provides his an additional opportunity to invest in others and develop them. In his own words, "success in life is not a measure of what we acquire, but of the legacy we leave behind in the hearts and minds of others."
Thanks for giving to your local chapter of ASTD, Mitch!
