May 2010 Volunteer Spotlight: Angela Ellis
Angela Ellis is our featured volunteer for April. You may know her as a board member, but read on to learn more about her volunteer efforts.
Angela is the managing consultant at Enhance Business Solutions, llc, a consulting firm offering HR, training, and career services. She facilitates, designs, and offers coaching for clients including Lee Hecht Harrison, New Horizons, United Methodist agencies, and Metro Public Schools.
Angela has been a member of the Middle Tennessee chapter of ASTD for 5 years. In addition to serving on the Board for a couple of years, Angela is involved in several other volunteer projects. She recently co-designed a food and nutrition program for Habitat for Humanity with fellow Board member, Pat Hollander. Angela is currently facilitating a multi-session leadership program for the directors and executives of the YMCA and continues to lead training sessions for Magdalene House to help women in recovery transition back into society. When asked what she gets out of volunteering, Angela said, "Volunteerism strengthens my skills as a training professional and gives me more opportunities to interact with others, build relationships, and build my business."
Her passion for learning and teaching drives most everything Angela does. She prefers to facilitate the discovery process rather than give a lecture—“many times the answers already lie within the group”. She adds, “I just love witnessing those 'ah-ha' moments when a participant has a break-through. It's exciting to see people's behavior, skills, and attitudes transform as they embrace new resources I share with them. The ability to learn (and teach) is the most powerful gift we have.”
A few fun facts about Angela:
- Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- Attended college in Florida before moving to Nashville.
- Enjoys singing, writing short stories, and occasionally trying her hand at gardening.
- Loves to cook, entertain, and travel.
Look for Angela at our next chapter meeting on May 20th!
